Weekly ROBLOX Roundup: April 14, 2012

Weekly ROBLOX Roundup logoEvery week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, Picking Up the Pieces collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week.

Video and Image Galleries

We just released a feature that lets ROBLOX users promote their games and places with rich media galleries. It’s the latest in a string of improvements we’re making to our website to help content creators better engage players. Read all about it here. We’ve already seen a number of slick video trailers and we’re anticipating many more. Get some tips and ideas at Video Making 101.

This Week in ROBLOX Tech

In-ter-po-lateTo start the week, we talked interpolation and how it’s smoothing the motion of physics objects in network ROBLOX games. It’s a technical article, but engineer Yunpeng Zhu provides videos that speak volumes about the actual impact of our new interpolation code. Erik Cassel explained ROBLOX’s deep testing infrastructure, while Keith Lucas and Matt Dusek went in-depth on how ROBLOX is set up to scale to millions of players.

But Wait, There’s More

If all this somehow leaves you yearning for more, check out the recent ROBLOX feature on MMORPG.com.

ROBLOX, Facebook and Twitter logos

We recently posed this question: What would you rather see in ROBLOX: Hundreds of players per game or virtually unlimited building space and part counts?

We found that about 60 percent of respondents want more building space and higher part counts – also known as bigger, better places. Roughly 17 percent of respondents are looking for more players per game. The few tricksters out there answered “both.” (Cheaters.)

This is useful information for us, and we appreciate the feedback. To contribute your feedback and stay in the news loop, “Like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

Until next time, happy building and gaming.

They should place a offline version of when you can build and play places you saved on your computer. :/

i see this are prety good feautures but now actualy if you had 100+ players on one server then i gues it would lag so much that roblox may loose players because of so many people doing things on the same time that it lags well if this hapens then i hope that they would make a technology like the terrain stuff wich doesent lag even with so many blocks..

Don’t think so. ROBLOX’d supply more hardware to increase the capacity and remove lag.

  3. BlameTelemon

Same thing happened to me but i found i was typing too fast. I slowed down and it worked

  4. Prehistoricman

Does Roblox support 6 cores on a processor? My new computer is a 3.3Ghz hex-core. If it doesn’t, can you please make it happen?

I dont Think Block lands Better.Im going for thr other 2:
Roblox and Minecraft.i Also think roblox is 95% or less everything :D

I go on building games a lot. Deleters occasionally show up. If there was unlimited building space, the map would be pretty big, but not unlimited. If there was one game with 100+ player limit, a whole group of deleters could group up and then split around the map doing what they do best. Not fun. Not at all. Unlimited space with more than one server is better.

People don’t realize, that with the unlimited bricks or 100+ players, they would work to make the games have little or no lag at all.

  8. blox339

do the 100+ player thing in SOME games, and the more bricks thing in SOME games because roblox is CREATIVE!

  9. phantom357

100+ people would cause MAJOR lag, but so would the other one. Minecraft does that and that causes lag.

I rather have 100 players per server than unlimited space. You actually leading the era of latency to Roblox. Roblox needs to make games that are less laggy and maybe the unlimited will be fine.

Look ROBLOX is a great website and so is minecraft and i hated lego universe. I know this is a great website, but all this talk about Roblox and minecraft. To be honest Minecraft + Lego Universe + Epic = Roblox.

I’d prefer new features over either of these any day… And I don’t mean hats or gear.
