Weekly ROBLOX Roundup: April 21, 2012

Weekly ROBLOX Roundup logoEvery week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, the Weekly ROBLOX Roundup collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week.

Our Effort Against Phishing

With ROBLOX attracting more than 7 million unique visitors a month, we’ve started to see a rise in websites that “phish” for our users’ personal information. We’re taking serious measures to ensure these phishing sites don’t last. Remember: If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Anytime you enter your ROBLOX account information, check your browser’s address bar to make sure you’re on the real ROBLOX website.

This Week in ROBLOX Tech

We have a comprehensive, automated testing infrastructure, but it wouldn’t be complete without the help of ROBLOX users. This week, Simon Kozlov went in-depth on user testing, from its place in the greater ROBLOX debugging program to the benefits of participating.

Bits and Pieces

We’re also combing through the responses to Your ROBLOX Top-Three List. While we’re a little ways off from a complete summary, we’re starting to address some of the most pertinent feedback. Stay tuned for more.

Lastly, our Content Team’s Base Wars game got some coverage in MMORPG.com. We’ve also published a handful of detailed stories about the game over the last few weeks, in case you need more.

ROBLOX on Social Networks

We asked our Facebook fans a simple question this week: What’s the most interesting thing that’s ever happened to you in a ROBLOX game?

You’ve seen some bizarre stuff. You’ve made new friends and ended up in games with ROBLOX celebrities and developers. One Facebook respondent told a quick story, which we’ve copied here and edited for readability:

“I was in a war group; we were in a helicopter flying to a raider base and our boss said, ‘deploy parachutes but don’t jump!’ When we arrived at the raider base he said, ‘Jump! Go go go!’ We parachuted in but were outnumbered by the raiders and the helicopter was shot down. Our next plan was to get in a heavy jeep. It was white and had no windows except in the front. There was a door in the back, our boss was driving. When we arrived again there were only two raiders. We fought them and left for another fort.”

Anti-climactic? Maybe. But it shows the potential ROBLOX has for creating scenarios that are different for every player, every time.

“Packed a house full of C4, then watched it blow up and rain bricks.”

“Playing Sword Fights on the Heights, I fell off a cliff with my sword out and landed on someone on another platform, killing them.”

“I survived a zombie attack with no legs and one arm.”

What are the most interesting things to happen to you in a ROBLOX game? Share your best gameplay stories in the comments, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay in the loop on questions and content you won’t find anywhere else.

My request is that there was a way to forward one message to all your friends at once so that you could tell them all to meet you or tell them all to do something cause its a pain to set there and send a message over and over agian for like three hours.

    Most interesting thing well….
“I was playing a war game, and my plane had just been shot down so, when i hit the ground and bounced back up (Like roblox always does) I was shot with a rocket -_- What are the chances of that happening?”

I was raiding a base, rocket launcher man on my right, sniper on my left, i jumped and shot the rocket launcher in mid air, while he was trying to shoot me, but it missed and hit his teammate, killing him.

Me and this other guy were the only two people at PBS extra cripsy. Then John came along. third time meeting him. As usual he was chill.

I was once playing Disaster Hotel and going up with another Person in a Lift when a Brick Fell on top of it and Blocked it. Then came the Fire and it came on the Lift but I had an Extiguisher so I saved us but then the Wave came and we Knew we would Die as we were on nearly the 2nd Floor but then the Lift Started going up and we Survived.

Then I played Calll of Robloxia 5 and I had loads of kills but no Ammo and I needed only 1 Kill for the Panzershrek [ 32 Ko’s ] but I had only 1 Throwing Knife and Nothing Else so I shot it in the Air randomly, knowing I couldn’t do anything with it and I got a Triple Kill as it Jumped on the Heads of 3 People.

Then I went to VS Fort Vulcan and a VSA Captain took us on a Heli but while I was Sniping some Raiders that were Hard to kill and Hidden someone Shot the Heli down and I ended in their Fort where they had a Captured Tank so I got it and Started Shooting.

    On a seperate note:

I was fighting at Base Wars, and an exploiter came in, and made himself invisible, I was a sniper, and was looking out, and, for some random reason, I thought something was behind me, so I turned and shot my sniper, HEADSHOTTED THE EXPLOITER!!!

Well.. The most interesting thing I remembered was when I was in Perilous Skies, then while I was fighting a F117 User with a F35, he was sooo fast but the missiles of his plane were the most inaccurate so I kept dodging his missiles and earning points, then my missile hit him but the plane fell down on me! That was so funny. Here’s a tip to the F117 Users. Don’t fly straight up with a F117 while someone is chasing ya.

So I was at a place for speed knock-outs, right? I commanded it to kill another person in the game so much that it was an extreme non-stopping loopkill.

One of my requests would be to make the catalog page scroller similar to the one on the friends list, where you can type in the page number and it goes to that page. Its kind of annoying when I want to continue my search in the catalog another day, but I would have to start all over again to get to the same page I was on the previous day. It would be nice to also put that on the page where you view the Stuff that a person has (like hats or clothing). Sometimes I am looking through a my favorite fashion designer’s clothes, and I buy one on page 23, then I have to go all the way back to page 23 from page one after I return to the user’s profile. It would be really cool to have those things done. :]

I was raiding a base, there was a ledge too tall to jump to, and my friend dropped his EGG hat and told me to walk onto it…
so I did. It lauched me up and over the ledge.
(this works almost all the time!)

i was playing Johns Cobra fort fang and there were a lot of raiders and my helicopter was shot down. i was on a building and was getting shot at then a friend came with a funny 2 seater flying bike and flew me int the base and to funny thing is that we got another heli and went to a building with snipers. we killed a few raiders then a raider got a flying bike and smacked into us knocking us flying into a hole XD

The force fields glitched up and you couldn’t see through them, then me and my friend’s character’s appearances switched. Most interesting thing ever.
