How to Build a FPS in 15 Minutes with ROBLOX

ROBLOX FPS ScreenshotBy the time the ROBLOX Content Team finished developing ROBLOX Base Wars FPS, we had accumulated a number of powerful scripts that quickly turn a standard ROBLOX game into a class-based, first-person shooter (FPS). Recognizing the power of the scripts, we packaged them in a FPS plugin for ROBLOX Studio and put them to the test.

Do they make it possible to create an FPS in 15 minutes?

The answer is a resounding yes. If you don’t believe it, watch this video, in which ROBLOX’s own Luke Weber and Rohan Karnik go from nothing to a fully functioning FPS game in 15 minutes. (We’ve edited the video for brevity.)

The plugin takes care of many FPS essentials, including the first-person camera, five character classes, leaderboards and killfeeds, and capture and spawn points. It lets you focus your efforts on level design; we recommend you read more about that here and take note of these quick thoughts from our developers:

This is the fun part – and where we spent most of our 15 minutes while building the demo level. You’ll want to insert a baseplate or generate random terrain to get started. Then, you can surf through our catalog of millions of digital models published by other ROBLOX users to get scenery and buildings for your map. You can, of course, make your own, but you’ll end up spending more than 15 minutes.

While it’s fun to experiment with bizarre level design, we recommend you think about the goals of your game and plan a layout to match them. For instance, you might want each team to have unique, but balanced advantages so player strategy is different based on their team. With that in mind, you could give one team the benefit of elevation and the other team the advantage of more cover.

    • You might not have a spawn on the baseplate which you need to spawn on just check that to be sure. If their is not one then add one and you should be set! :-) ~ SleepyCow4012

  8. I put the control points down and finished the map. However, when I went to test the game the Classes and the Leaderboards were not working properly at all. Can you try to fix it? I tried to fix it myself but could not figure it out.

  10. Could someone please explain how to get this to work. I have the plugin installed and the capture points, but thats it, I can’t seem to get anything else to work. Is there someone….anyone who knows how to do this? Come on Roblox, help us out here!

    • Sorry bu’t ROBLOX is not laggy* it’s your computer that is getting slowed down by scripts of a certain type. ~ SLeepyCow4012

  14. I think it’s wonderful for new users. I personaly never use free modles. I do however thing it will cut down on some pointless over used free models of lagy FPS. And it does take origonality of the already exsisting FPS games away.

  21. I have a problem, whenever I seem to do what the wiki says the browser (ROBLOX studio) keeps saying it failed to open the document. Help anyone?

      • I tried it on all my computers (Windows XP, Windws Vista and windows 7) and it dont work. >:(

  23. If you have a windows XP comp just right click on roblox studio then put Properties then Press Find target and then paste the script into the BuiltInPlugins folder

  25. It’s not any good if you used free models. You could make one in 30 minutes with the plugin and building basic, No CFramed buildings. It would take less than a day to make a good CFramed map with the plugin FPS system. But the free models destroy it.

  29. I can’t make the game cause it dosent have the starter class and weps and ZOMG SML AND RJ USES FREE MODELS?!?!?!(I feel so joulous of who’s models are those)

  31. I have 2 basewars maps with the FPS pluggin but there is a major bug with it i think. It doenst make spawns automatically, It doesnt even assign a starter class so it is impossible to create it. Both of my maps dont work because it doesnt have the starter class and i do not know how ot fix it. If anyone does know how PLEASE pm spottaffy1.

  33. I like it and I want to see how it works….but I try adding it into the plugins folder bbut it doesnt make a change….I think it could be because I didnt Unzip it or I set it so whenever you open it it uses internet explorer I’M NOT SURE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO UNZIP IT?

    Reason Why:
    Because doing so lowers the amount of creative games on Roblox. Because of this, there are most likely going to be an increase in FPS games, causing a decrease in the amount that each is played. It is inflation in the gaming industry, lol.

    • If you dont know how to build or script, then you learn how, just like the rest of the roblox community. these FPS engines will be so over-used, that they will be considered nooby.

  39. This really easy and set to go just build your imagination like building in roblox instead of playing with your toys. I enjoy building my creation and bringing them to life. I hope there more of this guide

  40. So, I got the plugin to work, sort of. I made my game, but when me and i friend joined, the timer didnt work, and no guns. Also, the leaderboard and class menu would’t open. Any suggestions?

    • You need to get the guns in-Sceen it says qould you like to put this in the starter pack? Say yes.Open the game again and theres your gun to blast off anothers head.

  43. This is a kids game. not some mans or womans game. kids dont understand plugins and lua and all that stuff. can we make roblox simple again?

    • I don’t think so. Roblox helps Kids make their decision on what to be when an Adolescent (Adult). Lua teaches them programming/coding, which they will later learn that Lua is how their favorite game is made. So maybe they want to be a programmer when they grow up.

  55. DON’T USE THIS! I tried it and the teams, classes, leaderboard, configuration, weapons, and even spawns don’t work at all! Complete waste of 15 minutes is what this plugin is!

    • Do you understand? Roblox is a children site, blood and gore games are cool to some, but it is frightening to others, he made his game just alittle bit to realistic, and roblox didn’t get it banned, it was the Reporters, and/or haters. Think twice before blaming a wonderful Online Gaming Company.

  62. I don’t find FPS as fun as, say, the classic roblox battles with brick-by-brick structures and third-person view that gives people opportunity to make better, more strategic attacks and evasion.

    90% of the game is already built/scripted.

  68. Ugh, for me it isnt working at all, heres a;; thats working: IntroGui; FPcam, and Teammorph. Whats not working: everything else.

  69. You guys know that the only reason they used free models was to prove that it is very easy to make a complete FPS game with this plugin all within 15 minutes.

  70. I have the plugin, really good:
    1. For some reason, the round timer in my FPS plugin doesn’t work
    2. The “Q for leaderboard” works, but the names don’t actually appear
    3. When I place the capture points, it doesn’t actually give out points. It just shrinks and expands.

    The classes & stuff work, but the above needs fixing.
