Character Prototype ScreenshotIf you’ve been following the ROBLOX blog for the past few months, you’ve probably seen one of our three hotly debated “Character Explorations” posts, in which we’ve shown the ongoing design progress for our version-3.0 character models. Love them or not, your feedback has helped shape the look of the future ROBLOX.

This time around, we’ve taken the new 3D bodies to the next level by creating fully dressed, personality-rich prototype characters and putting them into motion. Check out this post for a video preview from ROBLOX Art Director Jonathan Jahr.

Our new character models, once released, will be optional and compatible with previously released catalog items. If you’re a longtime user who’s attached to the original look, you’re welcome to stick with it. But don’t be surprised when you start seeing some new faces in ROBLOX.

  1. I play Roblox since 21 February 2009.
    THings have changed… Some things became better,some things worse. This is one of the examples it went wrong. So wrong! Those bodies look awful -> Lego Copy (and childish). I hope this will not come trough.

  2. Guys, they are wearable. You don’t need to wear them. You should hear what Jahr is saying.

    • WTF we dont want this roblox use your brain all people want to do is online date with these that is why they want it more real and why listen to the 200 of them when you have 20000 other players who dont want this!

  3. People say to make it optional. I hope they mean optional to SEE. If it was only optional to use, I would be very mad. I would literally rage quit ROBLOX. No joke. Get a brain, ROBLOX, Builderman, Shedletsky, other admins who design these, AND the people that approve of this! THIS… IS… DUMB!

    • Take a chill pill! They’re optional! It’s not like they’re is turning ROBLOX into a prison! They only want the Players to be happy! Some people like classic, Some like 2.0 and others like this. I’m all in for this. But, This is my opinion. If you don’t like it, You don’t like it.

      • I don’t think they make a good pair…….but that is just my opinion. i like the older bodies better.

  14. I don’t truly like the new look that will come out, but i haven’t been able to try it on for a 3D look. Even though I am not a NBC I’d like it of this was NBC compatible. All I know is that if I see any of my 9 friends with this mesh on… I’ll start rejecting it. I don’t care if strangers or newbs wear it (newb = new person) just as long as my friends dont. There is a cool mesh idea I had a while ago, what if there was a skull for a head, not a hat. I would definitely wear that for a head.

  15. That’s pretty cool. I would love it if you made them available for NBC members but seriously, the LEGO Group is probably going to get mad that you made the new morphs look just like LEGO characters. It does say at the bottom of each page: “ROBLOX is not sponsored, authorized or endorsed by any producer of plastic building bricks, including The LEGO Group, MEGA Brands, and K’Nex, and no resemblance to the products of these companies is intended”.

    • ahh, but it doesnt say anything about resemblence to KREO, now does it? ( i actually like these new bodies, just noticed kreo wasnt mentioned there.)

  16. I like some of the new bodys but some i don’t like. Also when you release them can you make them availible for the non-members to buy? I mean you can atleast let US have some stuff to have, plus don’t make it TOO high then most of the other ppl won’t be able to get them.

  17. This is.. Yuck. I liked the 2.0 bodies, those were decant for ROBLOX. But this? No. It’s like putting legos in roblox. Won’t fit the style. Work more on Physics, and get rid of this HORRID TERRAIN. Also I tried Studo 2.0 . It was a nice interface, but.. really upset me I couldn’t get into my game? Anyway, enjoy.

  19. ROBLOX, Can their be a Noob Day? Like when everyone has to wear only classic ROBLOX stuff. Classic hats, Packages, clothes, faces, Everything. I already “Have” a Noob Day, only I do it though. It’s on January 31st.

  21. These are ok I guess. I prefer the original block and like the 2.0 better then them. But I would still wear them occasionally and I started in 08. Oh and make a free one for veterans! :D

  22. I would have to say these look like barf. It completely ruins the idea of Ro”BLOX”. We’re Ro”BLOX” not Ro”HUMAN”. Remove these, they’re terrible and disgrace ROBLOX. They’re copying Lego also. Never, EVER, make this.

  29. Really roblox? DO YOU KNOW how many rapeist and petafiles are going to join this site now? Rember YOU are the blame for some of the children raped in the future, there is loopholes around everything, they can tell where they live. You can’t have admins in every server on roblox. YOU KNOW most people liked the old roblox, it’s culture, and the feeling of everytime you play a game on it, it was awesome. Now it’s just horriable, plagued with ODers, scammers, and much more. Really you’re doing this for the money you’ll make off of this, not for the good of what really the players want. -.-

  30. Hm…I’d say yes to the bodies,roblox is going through many good changes and bad changes we all have to go through them but still the bodies look cool.

  34. Alright, now that roblox has made them optional, Im fine. Althought ther is still one problem. The originality. Back when I started roblox, everyone out there had a totally differnt look. Some people looked evil and could put a sword through you at any second, some were cool with shades and fedoras, some people look like ninjas, some people wore funky hats. Man, the costumes were good then. Now what do we have? The basic look for a girl is some overused shirt with Long hair and a skater hat, and most boys have cheap shades and spiky hair. While im aware that none of this is under the admin`s controll, I think these bodies would only give off more unoriginal ideas.

  39. I like them a lot I dont know why at the beginning when ROBLOX said that he was going to make 3.0 packages almost everybody hated them. now almost everybody likes them. hopefully they are nbc and they are really cheap. :]

  42. Once again, Roblox ruins it’s own game. One of the Roblox rules is to not online date, but these bodies are the start from Roblox, to OdingLegolikecreatures. They’re not blocks anymore. The 2.0 bodies were pretty good, but these? No, my friend. One does not simply, make 3.0 bodies.

  63. “Our hotly debated topics” See, Roblox, the idea of being able to comment is so that way we go off of what is actually said. Instead of offering a choice and then completly ignoring all input, if you actually did anything that people said these would not be here right now and you would have better sells. But, instead you choose to just do everything to make profit instead of making the people already here happier. So if you even read this, perhaps you can get it through that blocky skull of yours that we don’t actually want this.

  64. MY GOD ROBLOX IS NOT GONNA GET SUED BY THE LEGO COMPANY! LEGO only holds a patent on the lego guy/person design not any that look similer.
    Also, to all the people who say that the majority disagreed with the new bodies, after I read all the comments it sure does not seem like it. Not to mention you are all having a hissy fit about something that is COMPLETELEY OPTINAL. If you don’t like it, don’t use it instead of screaming like a two year old in the comments, it just takes up space.

  66. I dont know what your all complaining about..its completely optional….it will be nice to see something new like this in roblox,and yes long time users(like myself and others) have grown attached,but change can be good.i myself am going to at least TRY these bodys.

  67. Well as long as they are opional I have no problem with them Though. I’m sure I’m not the only who would say that the focus should be on gameplay and physics rather than the looks of our character.

  68. I would rather turn into the direction of a joint-collected player body type instead of more Mesh, blocky looks. The only reason I will stick with that opinion is because joint created characters would help extremely well with Raiding games, FPS, Physic games, science fun and much more.
