Character Prototype ScreenshotIf you’ve been following the ROBLOX blog for the past few months, you’ve probably seen one of our three hotly debated “Character Explorations” posts, in which we’ve shown the ongoing design progress for our version-3.0 character models. Love them or not, your feedback has helped shape the look of the future ROBLOX.

This time around, we’ve taken the new 3D bodies to the next level by creating fully dressed, personality-rich prototype characters and putting them into motion. Check out this post for a video preview from ROBLOX Art Director Jonathan Jahr.

  1. I’ll be sticking with the 1.0 mostly, and sometimes the 2.0. I don’t really like these, due to the fact that they look too much like a ripoff of lego, k’nex, etc.

  2. No, no no. ROBLOX has too many terrible updtes, such as taking away our chance to have our own character showing, while having ROBLOX studio tools at the same time. You need to be focusing on the important stuff, THEN designing new features for ROBLOX, then asking people if they want them to happen.

  4. Lets say ROBLOX didn’t update bodys and everything else, then everyone is going to be starting riots saying “ROBLOX NEEDS AN UPDATE OR I WILL QUIT”.

  6. The bodies are gonna be the new BC bodies. The NBC Players get the 2.0 bodies as standard bodies.
    The 1.0 bodies will be removed if you like it or not.

  8. The body’s okay ‘n all but.. Why don’t you make the arms bendable? We’re on the 3rd generation of roblox bodies, at least make them more flexible :C

  11. Yeah, “ROBLOX”, the only blox that will be on ROBLOX is the building part of it besides the people who cant by the Packages due to being a guest or a standard member. It’s ROBLOX not HUMABLOX. It is unnecessary because its possible to modify ROBLOXian 2.0. The problem is ROBLOXian 3.0 has so much detail that the new faces only fit ROBLOXian 3.0′s (My Opinion) but I already know ROBLOX won’t change it since they already have the face and hair models done… ROBLOX is the BEST MMOG I’ve ever played please keep it that way.

    this is roblox:

    2006-2010 roblox was a great online game. very fun place and very original/creative.

    2011-2012 roblox became a online dating website, violated lego and stole their body design, copied terrain from minecraft, and copies water.

    i’m quitting roblox if they release these.

  19. It Looks pretty good but just make it optional so we can switch between the current body and this. But overall I cant wait to see what my character looks like in this form!!

  20. For those of you who say ROBLOX doesn’t read what you need to say and your opinions are, WTH do you think “Your comment is awaiting moderation” means? It means they look over every hate comment and every good thing you say and choose to post it or not. How do you think it makes them feel reading all this negative energy you’re beaming constantly at them? Personally I would be fine.     • I don’t understand why people don’t understand it’s optional, unless they didn’t watch the whole movie. I am ready for an upgrade, although I wish ROBLOX would work a bit more on the Games. What’s nice, if it does come out, it will be optional. :3

  26. Sorry to say,but if these come out you may be sued by Nintendo due to the girls looking TOO MUCH like Miis and also lego due to the boys looking too much like lego minifigures.

    • If you belive that these bodys will make OD worse you are insane. I don’t know about you but I’m not atracted to animated figures.

  31. Oh god why would you even try this? I speak for many when I say, the first 2.0 body’s should be gone. All this BC crap is useless. I stopped buying BC just because of it. The groups were awesome! No doubt. But couldn’t you work more on adding stuff that is actully useful? Like maybe a admin history log. Prevent masses of people getting exiled cause one clan hates them? Ya know, stuff people could ACTULLY USE? – leader/high rank/soldier of many.

  36. If this becomes real, this, my 4th year on ROBLOX, will mean I won’t stick around.

    You guys are now starting to make me think your are copying the building brand LEGO.

    Besides, remember what ROBLOX stands for: Blox (blocks) is certainly not shown here.

    What I see is a bunch of LEGO ™ digital designer copiers with a building side to it where you can interact.

    Yes, this is a long reply to this, but hear me out.
    ROBLOX was meant for building, not customizing your characters, I think we have much to many.
    If you guys are going to go on about personalizing your self so you don’t look copied, I think 121+ pages of hats is about WAY to much for personalizing, and now that you can wear 3 hats at a time, whats the point.

    The catalog is long enough, the ROBUX people have is outrageous, I don’t really remember AT ALL that in 2006-2009 there were many 100 R$ stuff, we only had a couple like the Dominuses.

    I am honestly not seeing the building anymore, what there is is a bunch a people trying to exploit ROBLOX.

    Most of my 2008 friends quit, for this reason, and I am THE LAST of my 2008er friends (I deleted all my friends, I used to have 723 of em but I deleted because people kept stocking me) but before I did that, NONE were on for years.

    Time has flown by on ROBLOX and it is what I hate to say, starting to suck.

    I hope you guys did take the time to read this and make changes.

    • One of my fav comments from people who don’t like them. Don’t say AAAAH DONT MAKE DIS OR ALL US LEAVE ROBLOKS! You stayed calm with it and said you would stick with the 2.0. Thank you.

    • You’re kidding right? It’s the same with 2.0 bodies. You make them like you do 1.0 and they just adjust to fit the other body types. If you look in the catalog all clothes are shown on a 1.0 character. Mr.Jahr/JahrBlox said himself its compatible. Please people watch the video. You don’t even need to watch it, just LISTEN to what is said. You guys neevr LISTEN. You look with your eyes and make a judgement. LISTEN to what they have to say. PAY ATTENTION. USE YOUR EARS AND MIND to process what is being said and you will absorb more information and understand it. Nothing he’s saying is unclear. YOU GUYS JUST CAN’T LISTEN. 5% of ROBLOXIANS on the blog LISTEN to the videos to help understand more. The other 95% look at it and just say NO. Then when it comes out everyone has it. WTH!

  52. This is it. I quit roblox. Roblox is just a money grubbing company that doesn’t care about it’s players. It talks about creativity all the time but the team members aren’t creative. They stole from MineCraft (Terrain and Water),LEGO (Original studs and these crappy “Roblox 3.0 characters”) and many other company’s. Another thing on this stupid game it’s too easy. You don’t have to work to do anything (Free Models). Another thing is NBCs don’t get anything. Roblox in 2007 “BCs can “Test” 2.0 bodies.”. A few weeks later “This feature is going to BC forever.”. So who is with me. To quit this idiotic money-grubbing company.

    • A cool idea would be putting the ROBLOX website into the game. So you have like an In game menu where you can read messages, join different games, trade money… and so on. So basicly all the features of the website in game.

    • I’ve read a similar comment about 2.0 bodies. Kinda funny. But think, ROBLOX is like avatar (not airbender one the blue people one). You control them. You make them move, dress them, etc. So how would they just gain AI on their own and start speaking?
