Character Prototype ScreenshotIf you’ve been following the ROBLOX blog for the past few months, you’ve probably seen one of our three hotly debated “Character Explorations” posts, in which we’ve shown the ongoing design progress for our version-3.0 character models. Love them or not, your feedback has helped shape the look of the future ROBLOX.

This time around, we’ve taken the new 3D bodies to the next level by creating fully dressed, personality-rich prototype characters and putting them into motion. Check out this post for a video preview from ROBLOX Art Director Jonathan Jahr.

Our new character models, once released, will be optional and compatible with previously released catalog items. If you’re a longtime user who’s attached to the original look, you’re welcome to stick with it. But don’t be surprised when you start seeing some new faces in ROBLOX.

  1. Head meshes are horrible and stupid. I see anyone at my games with those I’ll ban them onsight. I’ll also get a 1.0 body spawn for my places.

  3. Roblox honestly doesn’t care what we think. I’ve seen 2-3 Blogs about this before, both times the majority saying “No, we hate these bodies”, but ROBLOX pushes on the idea anyway… *sigh* Come on guys, let’s go play Realm of the Mad God and leave this dump.

  4. 1.Roblox, here’s AN ORDER from All of the players who agree with me when I say this, Roblox: FOCUS on the gamplay, not on bodies!!
    2. I think BC’ers have TOO MANY privileges. Now, BC’ers are making games FOR BC ONLY!They’re putting access levels blocking certain people from coming.Sooner or later, many of the popular games will become BC only.SOME are becoming mean and show-off’s.:(
    3.Roblox, It looks like you only care about money; you don’t care about the players anymore. Well, your money-makng scheme is working, FOR NOW. People will start to leave Roblox and you’ll realize your mistake of not caring for the players too late.
    So, do us ALL a favor: DON’T release these bodies!!! Please! I beg of you!

    These bodies are only gonna promote Online Dating, which Roblox is against.I’m gonna be sick if I see ONE person with that body in a game. If this sadly happens, AT LEAST make 2.0 for NBC’ers like me.

  9. 0_o … At least it’s optional, but those are creepy looking (well pretty much anything but the original is). I really wish Roblox would focus on gameplay and not asthetics/BC junk.

  10. Hi people of Roblox. The new bodies are HORRIBLEEE! UGLY, DISGUSTING ENCOURAGE ONLINE DATERS! Roblox you don’t care. At all. Your just like animal jam. Only want your money. Treats Non members like poop. Horrible community infested with online daters. Bullies jerks. What happened to the good roblox i hear about? Im leaving. Who wants to take a vacation from roblox and never come back with me?

    • They obviously do not care one bit. Though I’m surprised ur comment went through. I fully support your claim. ROBLOX is becoming more like Lego…. More babyish, more cheesy. I’m an 08er, I loved it back then.

      • I’M A 08-09′ER AND I HATED IN THE BEGINNING HOW I CAN’T HAVE HAIR! NOW I HAVE SOME. Now I want to look cool. It may sound greedy but I think it’s best for players. And all these HOLES? Are caused by you the players!You spam, hack and worse! I went on roblox Jr. High earlier 2day. The team names, break practically every roblox rule. Because of hacking ,spamming, and worse! So you should stop this complaining! The developers pour their heart in this place! And you threaten to leave because they want to make a OPTIONAL update? You users ban good users for what? NOTHING!

      I’ll come back when roblox learns to listen to the public, then make useless updates. Not the other way around.

    • IT IS OPTIONAL so stop haing on the new bodies personally i think they are cool and better looking than the previouse ones im kinda tired of the fat blocky bodies plus there are always odders back then and now and forever!! GOOD JOB ROBLOX KEEP IT UP

  12. The sarge faces are for FPS games if you want to put them on so you guys should shut up because ROBLOX wouldn’t have allowed fighting games by then if the rules involved “No war,fighting,gun violence.”
    Telamon is a Moderator/Administrator he made a fighting game on ROBLOX if there was a “No war,fighting,gun violence.” rule on the help post he would have never put that game up.

Ok for all of u people who are hating on the roblox 3.0 bodies just think for a while it doesnt matter what they do with the characters the bodies dont make roblox. creativity and building make roblox how u look on roblox doesnt make a difference about what roblox is. Its about the gameplay the building and showing of your skills. Obviously alot of people do not know what roblox is truly about. Just think about what roblox was made for you butts.

  16. Ugghhh… these look absolutely disgusting. Stop trying to update how Roblox LOOKS and start focusing on fixing the moderation problems, bugs and add to the actual game. I’ve spent hundreds on this game, and I probably won’t keep playing – or PAYING if you push this on us all.

      • Im really not sure that I would support this, because it’s only for bc. If they want to test it, just give it to nbc. There are many nbc’s too. I only have 1.0 body because im not bc but I think we should improve the bodies so it can’t be one certain look.

  21. Are you serious…? I’m glad this is optional but this is the ugliest model yet! I hope you don’t release this, because it looks so ugly, and this game is taking idead from Lego, Kre-o, Mine craft, and Block Land. Roblox needs to go back to 2008!

  23. I’ve been on ROBLOX since 2008 December. I’ve gotten inactive as most of the community is corrupt and have a thirst to hate and annoy. But my love of roblox’s building ways kept me checking, hoping roblox would make the right choice to work like they did in 2008. But now that I see this, I feel I will have no choice but to leave as I will most likely always see someone with this body. ROBLOX is definitely not a kids game anymore, and has taken ideas from MC, Lego, and even Kreo, which is a rip off of lego. Please ROBLOX, Dont release these. You said you were likely not to, but yet your doing the opposite.

    • Why don’t we just gather supporters and create a new web building game like ROBLOX used to be. We could ask them to sell us some old props and stuff, seeing as they don’t need/won’t use/are tired of it.

  24. I dont think this even should’ve been an idea. If these are free, im gonna scream. And are they REALLY gonna inlcude HAIR and other hats with that!? I’d actually like if they would’ve stuck to the REGULAR 1.0 version. I would be fine if they took away the Robloxian 2.0 as long as they also take away the newest version.

  25. These bodies are REALLY UGLY and they look like Kre-o. i wonder after seeing Kre-o battleship games that Roblox made a deal with them… Anyways back to the bodies. They look really ugly and bleak, thank god there optional.

  28. Roblox, this isn’t a request, this isn’t a suggestion. This is a order. I say, you make the new updated ROBLOX, call it ROBLOX II or something, and then take ROBLOX and make it the original old roblox. No fancy bodies, free models, ect. Again I repeat, this is an order. Not a request.

  30. hmmm… These bodys aren’t what I was expecting. The faces have dirty looks. I think I’ll stick with 2.0. BTW these bodies make us Robloxians look a bit mini.

    Will someone get banned by making a script that changes face and body when you enter a game?

    I remember guest talking script that were banned becuase guests arent suposed to talk so they make accounts, but some other games Change your look like hole in the wall, or battle for carentan. This games have like very specific style, but if this kind of scripts are added to other kind of games like roleplay, obbys, or whatever, could games get deleted?

    2006-2008: The admins cared about their players and joined games for them. Building set your imagination to so many levels.

    2009: ROBLOX began their money hungry streak with BC places, hats, and more than one place.

    2010: Too many benefits were for BC. Games were free modeled or horrible.

    2011: ROBLOX only wants your money. Threw your imagination way low with no studio. Almost all games were boring, generic, stupid, and free modeled.

    2012-?: ROBLOX went too far. They encorage OD’ing, the admins have no imagination at all (Meaning they copy games like /\/\inecraft, L3go),
    And they are not doing anything to exploiters.

    Now anyone want to help with my luggage? Cause I’m leaving NOBLOX.

    These bodys are going to be optional so you don’t have to worry about being forced to wear them.

  44. I like the new bodies they are a lot better than the original ideas that you came up with. These might be good for people who like their characters to be true to life.

  45. First off I think these should be optional to buy. Forcing us to wear these I know will make a lot of peolpe to quit. If these even were forced upon how will all the other shirts and pants and hats work with this new body? I say just make them optional to buy. Sure I am not to crazy about all the new updates. but I can understand why ROBLOX wan’ts to keep updating, but making this non-optional will proble make me quit and a lot more quit.

      • YOu still have to see other people wear them though, and all new users will probably set to it (sadly).

        The old models were kind of wierd, but at least had charm.

  56. I like the new bodies. I might wear them sometimes. They would go great with my swords and my armor outfits. Nice job with the new bodies. Its good there optional too. :D

    i hate how keep adding stuff that are for builders club or cost ROBUX.
    i try to look decent for a big event on roblox, and all the affordable faces suck balls.
