Character Prototype ScreenshotIf you’ve been following the ROBLOX blog for the past few months, you’ve probably seen one of our three hotly debated “Character Explorations” posts, in which we’ve shown the ongoing design progress for our version-3.0 character models. Love them or not, your feedback has helped shape the look of the future ROBLOX.

This time around, we’ve taken the new 3D bodies to the next level by creating fully dressed, personality-rich prototype characters and putting them into motion. Check out this post for a video preview from ROBLOX Art Director Jonathan Jahr.

Our new character models, once released, will be optional and compatible with previously released catalog items. If you’re a longtime user who’s attached to the original look, you’re welcome to stick with it. But don’t be surprised when you start seeing some new faces in ROBLOX.

  5. Everyone is argueing over this i think we should make them even though they are not blocks i mean legos are with blocks but the minifigures arent made of blocks its ROBLOX (ROBLOCKS) because we build with blocks

  12. The bodies are not the best, but they ARE OPTIONAL! Plus you can mix and match so you can try to work with this. And if someone is wearing this package, BE NICE! i know a lot of people will be called names because of some people who are veterans. If you do not have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all! Be nice to others!

  21. I think its pretty cool, expecialy the slight changes between character types.

  22. I sort of like them, but they’re a waste of time if you aren’t gonna like, make new joints or rig them. It looks inhuman if it’s just four joints in the body.

    Im not BC like alot of Roblox players. Roblox is like my second life, and I love buying cards to redeem Robux. Maybe a few of these bodies should start of for non BC to like the Undercover Superhero I have. This will make things a little better for us players.

And by being optional, Do you guys at Roblox mean its going to be open to NBC players as well as BC? Or just for BC?

  30. What do you mean our opinion counts? Nearly all of Roblox’s updates weren’t optional. You just add them on, at least give us users the benefit of choosing the minimum of updates we want. Excuse my opinion, but aren’t these bodies similiar to that of LEGO and Kreo?

  36. I think these look good. IDC what all these “OMG IT’S ROBLOX NAWT RO-HUMINS!!1111″ they look fine. Plus ROBLOX = Robot Blocks. Robot = The players. Blocks = The bricks of the level. Who said they all have to be blocky apparently? And they aren’t realistic, that’s bull. If I saw one of those IRL, that’d be really creepy.   39. The only reasons i don’t want these to be released is because it will encourage online dating and it’s not very Roblox-like. The 1.0 bodies were meant to be blocky, then came the 2.0. Roblox you have become worse over the years. You say “Good feedback or not, it has helped shape the future of Roblox” when it has helped shape nothing at all. Only about 10% of the community agrees that you should make this. The other 90% disagrees. Stop lying and for once stop being greedy.

    • Im not BC but I love paying for the cards to redeem Robux. Bodies for non BC should come more often, I have Undercover Superhero, and maybe one of these new bodies could start off non BC…

  40. Yeah, I get it that most of you greatly dislike the new models, but that’s your opinion. Just please be happy that ROBLOX made it optional to wear them, and please quit ranting and hating about this for a thing that’s already been solved. My only concern is whether it will be available to all players or not. If it isn’t, please made version 2.0 for all players, since so many people dislike this and still wear the old versions.

  43. I do not really like these but they are okay. I really only like a few torsos. But if people do wear them I will say cool to them. But seriously be nice to the people who save up there robux on these! I’m afraid People are going to start insulting each other if they wear these. But really, it is ROBLOX people be anything build anything. Be nice to others who buy these. The only thing I don’t like are the arms and the one face, the sarge face, with the you know, blood.

  68. I like the new update. I hope you let NBC users get this. Because I like it. I like how the girls can have glasses. I like how it still looks slightly block but a little more real. Also, will users still be able to make clothes?
