Character Prototype ScreenshotIf you’ve been following the ROBLOX blog for the past few months, you’ve probably seen one of our three hotly debated “Character Explorations” posts, in which we’ve shown the ongoing design progress for our version-3.0 character models. Love them or not, your feedback has helped shape the look of the future ROBLOX.

This time around, we’ve taken the new 3D bodies to the next level by creating fully dressed, personality-rich prototype characters and putting them into motion. Check out this post for a video preview from ROBLOX Art Director Jonathan Jahr.

Our new character models, once released, will be optional and compatible with previously released catalog items. If you’re a longtime user who’s attached to the original look, you’re welcome to stick with it. But don’t be surprised when you start seeing some new faces in ROBLOX.

  5. Cmon guys, do you really think ROBLOX will not publish this? You guys are pretty much asking for 2006 back, with bad graphics, bad games, and less things to wear. If that is what you want, too bad. ROBLOX is a company, and they need to make money by creating more stuff so people will buy more BC.

I dont LOVE this idea, but it’s optional, and I dont really care. Some are cool! Sarge one? (First, 3.0 one they show.) I think that’ll be cool in war games. More casual ones also. People saying, “ogm ogm ogm! dis looks like lego har har har ahahahaha ogm lego and kreo we be sue ahahahahahaha.” I looked up Lego Man on google images. I then turn to these pictures. Many differences. This is more realistic. Plus, didnt Kreo team up with ROBLOX with the battleship thing? Mkay. “omigosh no dis weel make oding ahahahahhaha.” This will make ODing? Moderation. Updates. Moderation. Updates. They can be very different. ODing can be stopped by moderation, not updates.

  8. I dont really like this. I joined roblox in 08 but I still think I would wear these soe as a cool project to try. Maybe make them to a more roblox look though. These just dont match roblox to me.

  9. I think this would be great, as long as you have the ability to switch from your old to your new body. I also think it should be compatable with NBC players because it would be greatly unfair if this awesome feature would be restricted to BC only or something that costs a lot of money. A minimum of 15 Robux please. Also, change the hands they look to “Lego”ish which ruins the point of ROBLOX. Make the fingers blocks. Otherwise, this is a great idea! I give full support.

  12. I do not like these. They are un-origional, and ROBLOX was better off with the origional style. I LOVED old ROBLOX. But then, you guys had to think up some new stuff. “Ooohh! I know! Lets make Roblox more realistic, and change it’s name to Ro-ealism! That’d be cool!”

    Back in 08, there were round studs. They were changed to square to avoid lawsuits.
    Now, it looks like Roblox is going to attract lawsuits from Kreo. Even if it dosen’t, these bodies don’t look like a Robloxian. If you want to use these bodies, make another game and use them there, because these are NOT Robloxian bodies!

  24. I honostly think i’m the only one who likes this. Remember how exited everyone was when the 1st version of these came out? This is amazing! I want more realistic looking bodies! This is more or less lego and mega blocks combined. So no one gets sued. People, just think of it as a new package in the catolog. You can just ignore it. BUT IT HAS TO BE MINE! I WANT IT!!!

  27. This is a great idea. You can make new bodies so people are intrigued with them while you make more improvements on the new Trade System.

    I would rather see you improve the water than make new bodies. The current water looks terrible and blocky and destroys the terrain below it. Swimming is stupid too, because you either float up and it’s hard to swim down or you sink and can hardly swim up.

    • I agree also it dose not flow i have told Roblox that but they jsut say Too much bugs and they talk tooo much about phisics and i will tell u water flowing is phisics

    • when you are sitting there in real life you float up so its…and u have to move your mouse in direction hold right click then press forward and move your mouse while holding right click

  29. Oh gosh, they’re actually doing them. Sure they’re optional, but I liked Roblox better several years ago: All blocks, no body meshes.

    • One thing you really have to understand is the effort put into these new bodies. They’ve been trying hard to make these bodies as blocky without breaking the bounderies that would upset you. I believe they’ve found the midway with that, making it look blocky, but human.

      And also, like it says, they will be OPTIONAL!!!
      So you don’t have to have them. :)

  33. They are pretty OK. Long time users (Me) should be able to get the new body for FREE. Although that you don’t have to. So if a kind of package comes out for free, just try it on. You might like it.

  34. I was actually against these as first, but I think they are actually prety nice. Sure im not going to wear them ever, but they are optional and I am glad to see that. Also I am glad to know that NBCs will now have anoption to buy bodys so now we wont have so much spam around ROBLOX.
    Downside is that people will be protesting to remove them. Keep making these and see how they turn out.

  41. Despite the thousands of resounding NOs, the few Yes’ are heard and answered with content that is unwanted by the vast majority. No surprises there. I wonder if content is decided by how many people with special memberships say yes or no.

    • no, if they only listened to bc, we wouldnt have this. if you noticed, everyone in favor wants it free for nbc…

    • I bet it is mainly more power to the people with special memberships, especially because they want it. Why do they want it? Because they’re going to be expensive, and the people with the memberships will buy them and show off. Exactly why.

  63. Personally, I think these are great. Non-BC people have been begging for non-BC packages for years! I do like the fact that they are opptional. Also, I would definitely get one of these when they come out. I like the Lego style.

  66. Ummm… I thought ROBLOX was against online dating. This will probaly promote it. And also, ROBLOX says they don’t work with Lego or KRE-O, but these are looking more on the KRE-O side. 1.0 is the body I’ve had for 4 years, and I hope to keep it for as long as I play ROBLOX. I hated the other packages, and I hate these new ones. I hope you realize, you are going to lose many old-styled ROBLOXians who play for the game, to build, make friends, have fun. Yes you will gain more users, but those new users are going to be mainly trolls, online daters, trouble makers, and will probaly end up perma-banned anyway. I’m not quitting ROBLOX just yet (even if I am too old for it), but the increase in trolls, oders, and all else is really going to drive me and other users like me away.
