ROBLOX Hosting a Hackathon at Game Conference 2012

Can you produce under the pressure of limited time? If so, we invite you to bring your laptop to ROBLOX Game Conference 2012 and join us for a continuous, all-day Hackathon.

The ROBLOX Game Conference 2012 Hackathon will let attendees take a break from the festivities and enjoy a session of ROBLOX creation. Every 20 or so minutes, a ROBLOX developer will unveil a new puzzle, challenging users to complete it in a given period of time. While we can’t give away any specifics, we’ll be asking competitors to do things like create a new GUI (graphic user interface) or game effect, script a specific sequence of behaviors, solve programming and math puzzles, and take advantage of a ROBLOX feature that’s not commonly used.

Attendees can participate in as many 20-minute challenges as they’d like. We’ll be giving away prizes to participants and, better yet, projecting a leaderboard that shows who’s successfully completed the most Hackathon puzzles – and who’s the most skilled user in attendance.

To prepare ourselves for the ROBLOX Game Conference 2012 Hackathon, we’re going to be holding our own mock Hackathon at the ROBLOX headquarters this afternoon. We’ll let you know how it goes soon.

    Note to other people wanting RC2012 to be in their states:

    This is the most convenient option for Roblox Administrators. Their workplace is in California, so why not? They’re not gonna fly across the country just to set up a Rally for one user who requested it.

    I personally like what they’re doing.

  40. I build really cool old-school and Modern houses, hotels, ships, houses, and more, I have a really neat perspective of design and everything is sleek in my opinion. I really want to attend to this Roblox Rally, and i hope that later they might release it in Canada, Toronto.

  42. i wish you could go more then 10 miles from your HQ…. the least you could do is put a link on the roblox website where you broadcast the event live o_o

    • Actually, that’s a pretty reasonable and good idea. That way we could switch webcams to view different rooms and some of us could actually view it from England (Who are complaining, like me :3)

      It would probably cost like £600 to get from Heathrow to California. That would be around £2400 just for the four of us, then we’d need a hotel (another £400 maybe) and transport.

      In total £2800 to go to a ROBLOX Conference. About $4328. Fortune XO

    • Yeah now I actually want to go. Make sure to include info about the players, so that we can play the games!

  56. That sounds cool. I think I am a good scriptor. Bur I’m not too fast at it.
    I make advanced working scripts at times.
    I don’t know if they will allow re-using code I have made in the past. Like the portable functions I have made.

    And why I can’t go to this. I live on the other side of the USA. D-’:

    • I might go next year, dunno yet. When it approaches next year, I might think about it. This year, too much stuff has been happening and my birthday ALREADY passed. Thus I’ll need to wait for next year… But I doubt I would be able to do this, LAWL. Because I can’t script much.

    • Come on! Your just making this Sooo fun for the ppl who live close!!! I’m in Florida too!!! But your on the other side of the country! I would be most grateful if it were in Kansas, then it’s the same distance from almost all of the 48 states. (48 cuz of Alaska and Hawaii)

      • Be grateful they atleast HAVE a rally. Do you expect ROBLOX to build a HQ for every single request they get to satisfy a few people’s needs?

      • The Roblox building is in California. They can’t just have it in someplace else just because somebody wants them to.
