ROBLOX Preps for RGC 2012 with Mock Hackathon

RGC 2012 Hackathon LogoLast week, we announced that ROBLOX Game Conference 2012 will feature an all-day Hackathon, where attendees can use their scripting and logic skills to come up with quick solutions to ROBLOX puzzles. We put the idea to practice on Friday afternoon, gathering eight ROBLOX developers for our own mock Hackathon. The winning developers, known on ROBLOX as “QuantumSama” and “HotThoth“, didn’t receive tangible prizes — actual RGC participants will — but a brief Friday evening of bragging rights.

The mock Hackathon gave us a chance to test several challenges, a timer and leaderboard system, and helped us see some ways we can make this event fun for ROBLOX users of many tiers. Watch this video for an inside look at our dry run on Friday, June 8th.

ROBLOX Game Conference 2012 will take place on July 14, 2012 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. If you’d like to participate in the Hackathon, remember to bring your own laptop.

  3. I hope Hackathon will help roblox anti-hack. I really dont know whats Hackothon is about but I’m hoping it’s a hack free solution to all of our hackers, copyrighters, and spam.

    Why does anyone buy those overpriced pieces of junk? You’re not paying for performance half the freaking cost is for the external caseing and the brand name… Alienware is the brand for people that have no idea about how computers actually work, why do you have one John, why…..

    • well if you’ve ever seen deadliest worrier the guys use alienware because they need the space on the computer to run the programs

    What about the people flying in from other states/provinces? Some airlines don’t allow laptops.

    • well if you live in a close city or state like Vegas or LA you could just drive there i dont know if that solves the problem for people from NY NY or somewhere like that

  30. I hope that a Hackathon comes for all Roblox users (including Roblox Employees and that sort of thing) where EVERYONE can test their skills but have to deal with a modified version of Studio. One difference, it has a timer linked with every other participant.

  41. I think this is a very good idea, I wonder what the prizes may be. I think their should be an extra mystery prize that will be shown after the winner is chosen.

  58. Hey, ROBLOX. This idea is great, but I’m still quite confused on what it’s about? To stop hacking or something else? On the other hand, stopping exploiting would be great as ROBLOX’s ratings would go up, because some exploiters put up a message with inappropriate words which is very disturbing for younger children. It also would be good for clans, they can finally defend their forts in peace. ;) Good job, ROBLOX. Keep working hard for us, much appreciated ^_^

  60. Too bad I live in Michigan. And I want the gear too. But we can’t use Roblox Cards or account credit to buy the tickets either. D-:

    • You dont actually need the laptop they send you a survey to you’re email and they tell you if you want to PARTIPATE or NOT They will give you computer rental also(I think)
