In the time since its launch, ROBLOX has gone from being compatible with Internet Explorer to five major browsers, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Opera. As part of our ongoing effort to streamline ROBLOX, we recently removed a legacy of single-browser support: the embedded browser in the ROBLOX Player.

This browser occasionally caused problems for users with a default browser other than Internet Explorer and slight confusion as to whether you should browse games in the Player or on Roblox.com. Now, there is a clear distinction between browsing, which takes place in your preferred web browser, and game play, which happens in the ROBLOX Player. We believe a faster, leaner application will benefit ROBLOX users more in the long run than the Player’s web browser.

We’re particularly interested in hearing about what seem to be isolated difficulties browsing ROBLOX games using a modern browser, such as Chrome, on a computer that is three or more years old.

  2. One problemo ROBLOX. I can build in games by cicking “Build”, but I can’t play games by clicking “Play”. It is the most annoying thing eveh!

  3. The ROBLOX Browser (I assume you’re referencing to as “ROBLOX Player”) DOESNT EVEN LAUNCH GAMES WHEN I CLICK PLAY! What I mean is that when I click Play, the game window never comes up! I have to keep using ROBLOX Studio. I would LOVE to rather use the roblox browser for roblox games, it just makes sense.

  5. Get rid of hacking admin hacks are worse they ban you and all those other hacks.

    • Its not hacking if you have the right to do it. Thats what happens when your not supposed to be in a game. Those user are on the admin list

      • In the games because they have a certain VIP that gives them admin. Its not hacking

  6. if roblox makes it where we can play games on our mobile devices i will be very exited

    • Sorry bro, never gonna happen, well not at least for the next like 15 years … lol, phones are a generation away from being able to run OpenGL/Direct3d and stuff like that..

    • This would be very hard to achive because Roblox takes a lot of data, and already lags on computers, it might make it on Psp, but things like Iphone they would not be able to display that kind of visual usage with out major lag, if it plays at all in the first place.

    • i agree that ROBLOX should make an app on Iphone/Ipod/Ipad/ect that allows roblox players to browse and play the games rather than just look at the games

    • Rooster, IF it got added to consoles and portable devices, no way it could be free on those. It would take money to make it on them, money to sell it on them, basically everyone using it on those would have to buy OBC.

    • The PSP is a little outdated, I say instead of the PSP, they should have it on the PS Vita.

    • that would be horribly hard to do. have you ever seen a game that you can play with people on consoles and on a computer? If there is i dont know. you can have a game thats for console and pc, but you cant play on a pc with other people on a console.

  8. Idea For Next ROBLOX Update: Make it so there are dark spots in terrian to make it more realistic and more epic.

    • If they do that though it would defiantly look like Minecraft. If they go with that, idea next they’re gonna add monsters and Day and Night.

    • Those users have to accept your friend request. Anyways its not smart randomly asking people to be your friend

  10. I think the ROBLOX browser is a great idea. I’d love to be able to rate places (Rate 1-5) straight from the browser.
    Also, i’d love a MOBILE ROBLOX browser. I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to go to important group meetings on an iPad or iPod. The ROBLOX Mobile app is great, but i’d also love to see ROBLOX Mobile Browser.

  14. I want roblox Explorer to be back, I don’t want Internet Explorer to carry out to be ROBLOX Explorer

    • The Internet ROBLOX Browser sucks because it junks up my history. I open a file searching for a cool game I found or something and I get this huge list fo everything i did on roblox that day. for some reason,it goves the error too. and this slows my computer dwon by a lot.

    • Just change your default browser, if you don’t know how to just launch a different browser that you’d prefer to use, most will ask if you want it to be the default browser.

      If that doesn’t work, just google “set [Your Prefered Browser] as default in windows”.

    • Yes. I would love to have ROBLOX compatible with the iPod, iPad, and the Android.

  17. Roblox staff don’t know much about “Hacking” their thinking it’s all fine however if I was a staff I will ban certain plugins like ones for destroying games. What the staff need to do is hire someone to go into games as a -GUEST- to see the problems in games. They don’t know what were going through. This is a kids website and I want every user to be happy. I don’t like seeing this “You noob exploiter”, “Im reporting you for hacking”. If someone reports then someone needs to check on them they may be in major trouble.

    • you see a hacker then just leave. Or in a game like Catalog !Wars, just team up and kill repeatedly. This is not hacking, Walkspeed/me/25, its admin controls

    • yeah i agree its really simple actually to patch.
      the hack is a file called textcode.DLL
      (digital link library)
      all roblox needs to do is put a script or a proccess like Xtrap.
      this stops literally every hack from entering a game with xtrap.
      including cheat engine.
      cheat engine is what allows this hack to be used in the first place as it “injects” DLL’s into the selected game. if you want to protect your place from hackers youl have to find a QQ script. this kicks hackers the moment the DLL is injected.

I liked the old browser…. where it wasnt on internet… Now I worry about viruses joyriding the page into my computer thanks, and it also means if I suddenly lose internet BAM page is gone.. on the old one you could easily just refresh instead of sitting there clcik backspace till it goes back a tab… and it was much easier to not have all the extra tabs and stuff JUST the roblox tabs because now if my mouse moves over and hits homepage due to other updates I auto log out of roblox… See how many issues some users have now? Thanks for another breaking update roblox, you ruined the health bars, new material designs, and now the old roblox tab THANKS [ I cant see other health bars or the new material meshes that look realistic]

  19. If it was up to me I would of just left it the way it was, having to open the internet Explorer is lame. I think now that people can use the Internet Explorer will give hackers more options in stealing peoples games or more. I beleave that instead of working on these small updates Roblox should Put there mind in the area of Fixing there exploit problems.

    • I Agree. But with google chrome you can download applications for it that block third party members and block ads. (Unles you have BC) So until the ROBLOX player gets updated so that it will work, use Google Chrome!

    • Uhg, EVERYONE wants console roblox. Think of it thsi way=IT COULDN’T BE FREE, AND you’d need Xbox Live or PSN or whatever to get it, and well, it would fail.

  21. Since I hated the update where we couldn’t use the ROBLOX Browser, I raged. The using the internet as the new broswer, in my opinion was a bad idea. The browser for me was much faster then the internet. Now I just use the Roblox Studio as my Roblox Browser, because its as fast as the old and replaced Roblox Browser, and it doesn’t close once you play a game.

  22. on my nine year old desktop browsing games in all browsers is fine, but using the roblox website on my laptop which is a couple of weeks old is bad on any browser, it freezes every 8 seconds for two – four seconds. My desktop runs windows XP Professional and my laptop runs windows seven ultimate if that has anything to do with it. in-game its fine on both computers

    • We need to fix Exploiting/Hacking/Scripting! It’s really bad, and it’ll only get worse until action is put unto it!

    • They actually were planning to. They made the ipod and iPad app, and they said their dream was to be able to make the game accessible for such devices some day. I don’t know if they have finished it or not though.

    • Agreed. Fixing the .dll exploits should be your #1 priority, roblox. forget about this and other things. But nope, you wont listen.

      • I’m gonna have to agree on this one. 4 Yars on Roblox, and I’ve never seen a hack spike like this. It seems as though more people are watching the videos and reading the blogs about hacking and exploiting. You guys are not trying hard enough nor do you care anyways. Your going to loose members. You will eventually attract proffessional hackers whom will ruin your website along with the game. It’s a good game, but apparently it has horrible employees who sit back and watch the hacking and exploiting go on!

    • Hacking/Exploiting is difficult to Patch, Notice the Speedhack still works after like a Year and after the first patch.
      The Owners of Games Need to Think out-side the box so to speak and then Create a script to FULLY protect their Games and not just a anti.dll script.
      Create a Script that is set to check everything in your game and then if It sees something Not permitted it will remove it!
      Not that hard for a user to do… Just learn how to script :I

  28. Okay, Since i just got a problem with this. I’ll list it here. So im in opera, i go to a place, click play. Then it asks me to download roblox, when i clearly have roblox installed on my computer. -___- Hate when this happens. Please fix this, im forced to use google chrome when this happens. And when i redownload it, it still asks me to download it again when i click play, and yes, i restarted my browser and computer after it redownloads and reinstalls.

  29. I think roblox would introduce headsets.when creating a game,You can toggle if you want them or not.Without the roblox browser i can live with it.
    But ALL the major vid games have it,so why not roblox?

  33. Personally I don’t think you should’ve spent the time and resources for this. This is simply the least important of the many things your team is doing. I suggest fixing the dll exploits, and devoting a large part of your team to it.

  35. When I open up ROBLOX via the ROBLOX Player, the site does not load. I use Chrome and I don’t see the point in using Player when I can just open Chrome and go to Roblox.com myself. Games still work on the browser, so the Player really is redundant.

  36. I use chrome I love it, I only use Chrome for ROBLOX. It is faster than when I had IE 7. I think Chrome has a few bugs with ROBLOX. But I like that I get Spell Check :P

  37. The Brower Makes it harder to join games. I click The ‘ Play ‘ button 5 time and i still don’t start the loding screen, id like that old Roblox brower a bit better.

  38. If you are on ROBLOX before the new update(AD pop-ups) than it won’t pop-up to you.If you are a veratran.It won’t appear.

  39. While this will be nice for people using some browsers, you need to focus on things people actually care about. At the moment, everyone cares about how easy it is to hack/exploit games. A year or two ago, you’d have the rare hacker an it’d be pretty cool. But now, it’s everywhere, and it simply ruins gameplay. Please fix this first, then spend time on these small things.

    • Thank you for pointing that out! I was hacked… I put the name of the hacked account as my name. So maybe I can get it back. WORK ON THAT LATER! FIX HACKERS AND EXPLOITERS!!!!

  40. Before, I wanted to play this robot build to survive game. It kept loosing connection to the game and when i tried to log on the second time, it kept saying ROBLOX is updating. Please Wait… . The third time I kept trying to log on the game it said some weird pop-up stating that an error occured durring ROBLOX no such exists or something like that. I think it took me 6 tries to log on the game without having an error.

  41. …Seriously, guys? Nothing about fixing the myriad of hacks, cheats and exploits? It’s getting to be quite the problem.

    • It IS quite the problem; and, chances are, Roblox won’t even NOTICE about it until it looses 3/4 of the client. And, by the time it will consider fixing it, the client will be completely gone…

  42. A mobile version would be convenient (not necessarily an application, but just a mobile site is fine).

  43. You should remove the new loading system in Internet Explorer, with the “Gameplay sponsered by” It lags number 1, number two it doens’t start the server most of the time.

      • it’s not worth playing games anymore, hackers can hack and they care about compatibility, and now they run ads before games.

  45. Hmm, lots of updates, none about the IPAD release or development. Sure, it was seen only TWICE on YouTube, so we know it MIGHT be in progress. But if you only mention it once on the blog how are was as ROBLOXians supposed to be able to know? ROBLOX should have democracy too. We all should be able to run for president of ROBLOX. In it, we can share campaigns and what we’ll do to help better ROBLOX. As a president, you can tell users new things that are coming to ROBLOX, get to share prototypes the Higher Ups(Which are the Administrators and Developers of ROBLOX) with players. You can also moderate comments. And can talk to the Dev’s live. I’ve seen at least 100 games that break at least five of ROBLOX’s rules. We need people to enforce them with more support! You guys can only do so much. ROBLOX is run by adults with families and high-schoolers with, well school! But with a ROBLOXian who is willing to work around the clock, we can make ROBLOX even more user interactive and even more of a safe place for ALL children of ALL ages. Wait, how did I start talking about democracy????

    • I dont see the point in democracy. ROBLOX is a place where people have fun. you can put presidents in ur place if you want though.

    • Roblox presidents wouldn’t be a good idea. Because someon with too much power can do alot of bad things.
      But ROBLOX should put a vote system, so we could vote on which update we prefer. (Of course these should be seperated on multiple Categories like Scripting, GamePlay, Studio, etc).

      • No, just no voting system. too many players play roblox and we dont want to disappoint millions who wanted a update but it didnt come because billions didnt. >_>

In terms of browsers an issue that i typically find is that when I use Google Chrome simply because its faster than internet explorer when I click to get a template for something such as an ad or shirt or pants template, it needs to load up the internet explorer link which is very slow and very annoying my computer freezes up over it a lil bit. But I agree with people below me the exploits need to be fixed more than anything else on the site in general people ruin this site with exploits.

  47. That’s fine, the embedded player was simply a repackaged version of an older release of Internet Explorer.

  48. Personally, I preferred using the normal ROBLOX Browser to Internet Explorer and etc.
    Is there any way to use the actual ROBLOX Browser again? I can’t find any way to.

    And stop worrying about things such as this.
    Could you please do something to stop Exploiters and people using CheatEngine?
    DLLs are getting people’s games and Models stolen all over ROBLOX. It isn’t fair.

  49. I like the Roblox Browser better. It NEVER plays ads even if you’re NBC. With Chrome, you have to wait for a useless download to complete, unless you buy Builder’s Club.

    I accidentally deleted the Roblox Browser when I played on Gametest. Now I’m stuck with Chrome…

  52. I’ve never used the ROBLOX Player in my 4 years on ROBLOX, and that’s because I’ve simply not seen the need to. Maybe you should add something to enitce people like me to use it.

  53. i have a computer i’ve had since 2007 and the problem is it freezes up sometimes and the graphics are slow

    • It actually is quite fast. Maybe your computer cant take ROBLOX’s settings. You can lower the graphics settings in ROBLOX studio. To do this, open up ROBLOX studio, on the top bar there should be a Tools tab. Click the tools tab then click on settings. Then go to rendering. Then change all the material settings to low, and turn shadows off. Then exit and restart ROBLOX. This will sacrifice graphics for performance.

  55. I run Roblox from Chrome on a 2004 Windows XP and I have no problems. However, Roblox Studio on my MacBook Pro (from 2009-10 or so) lags everywhere; on the website, when in build mode, and when in edit mode. The Play feature works perfectly fine though; strangely enough, the newer computer is worse at Studio, but better at gameplay. I haven’t seen any issues with Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari on any computer; Roblox lags on Opera when on the Internet Channel on my Wii, but I never use that anyway.

    • Well Google isn’t a browser. Any kind of searching mechanism is fine. But it depends what Computer/ Laptop / Browser you use.

    • Except you’re forgetting the fact that all Google products log everything you do at every time, on every day. So every link you click, every image you view, Google logs it. But you probably didn’t know that.

  57. i used to always like using the roblox browser except for i would always have to go on my chrome for trading or links. I liked it because i could have my roblox on one side and all my other stuff on chrome. But i do like the Chrome Roblox Extensions. Well atleast the move to chrome is easy.

  59. Well the deal is that the roblox player is something with almost no knowledge of programming using Visual Studio Express can make. The only hardish thing in there is the update client. It’s basically Internet Explorer made to look different. I don’t even think that the roblox player is needed. If you want something like that make something like Steam or X-Box live. They have a good browsing system. The roblox player is just an IE control in a window with an update client.

  62. I think that ROBLOX should seriously consider allowing links to approved websites, like YouTube. They already allow you to put any video you want as a item for your place gallery, so why not on group walls or forums? It would be nice for all of those graphic designers (me included) if we could post our work from other websites. Also, fix the transparency decal glitch. It would help a lot.

  63. Here are a few of my suggestions:

    1: A more touch friendly version of the website.
    Currently, the ROBLOX website is impossible to browse using a device like the iPad. I feel since you’ll be releasing a port of ROBLOX to iOS, a more touch friendly website would be greatly appreciated.

    2: Better game pages.
    At our moment out game pages kind of suck. There’s not much interaction between the player and the web page. I would like to see more things to do on the page, like backgrounds (customizable by the player) or a more interactive place description.

    3: A Windows 8 metro style app for ROBLOX.
    Windows 8 is coming, and it will run on both tablets and PCs. This is why we need an app for Windows 8 with the ability to switch between touch and keyboard-mouse interaction. Also, a metro style browser for ROBLOX would work well.

    • Agreed I don’t know what roblox has got against YouTube it would be awesome to be able to post links to songs or mabie an in game Player for YouTube so you can watch your favorate song/video whilst playing on games.

      • I don’t see the point in using Crome.
        Regular Internet Explorer works fine… I really don’t see the point in updating things by making an entire new browser. I mean geez, it’s like making an entire new ROBLOX just to update something small like something in gameplay. :l My opinion, don’t hate on it. ^-^ ~ Cookie

      • I use firefox and theres no problem. well the only problem is that the new adobe flash player crashes before i even press the play button on a youtube vid.
