Procedural generation, scripting and… Zombies.

Zombie City ZombieWe recently noticed that a ROBLOX user, um3k, had come up with a script that would automatically build a terrain and city each time a new instance of his game started. We deemed the project cool, smart and worthy of some brain-picking. Justin, as um3k is otherwise known, was kind enough to share a bunch of information and a plugin that lets you drop randomized buildings into any ROBLOX game with a single click.

Getting to the top of the Games page

The top of the Games page is something of a holy grail for ROBLOX users, but getting there requires a balanced blend of high-quality building and scripting, an understanding of your audience and time spent play testing. That’s according to ROBLOX user Playrobot, whose game, Lakeside, was the first created in 2012 to reach 1 million plays.

  1. This isn’t as important as Fixing the roblox studio problem, people downloaded 2.0 and now can’t launch it or ect. They should have a button when u build that says “Would you like to use studio 1.0 or 2.0?” and then Most roleplayers like me Want the in-game- Wardrobe finished anytime soon, You guys need to work on the main problems unlike “small updates” This is what needs to happen.

    • PM the creator of the game, roblox has no control over it, after all, roblox is a user-generated game!

  4. Roblox is O.K but still it’s kinda getting out of hand with the online dating and bad words and just some people even ban or admin abuse innocent players because they feel like it,ugh………………………………

    • If people are exploiting Or Abusing admin tell the owner…
      I would NEVER allow admin abuse to scare away my players from my place…

    • What roblox needs now is a dictionary chat system that only allows words in the dictionary to be shown. Like on all the disney sites, webkinz, and a few others. We could still have to chat mode where you get to say almost anything but there would also bedictionary chat. I hope this is possible to includein future updates.

      • But if we had dictionary chat, we wouldn’t be able to say anyone’s name and we wouldn’t be able to do weird faces.

  6. Ok roblox doesn’t need to focus on any of these things. There main problem is exploiters. Almost evey single game I go on is exploited. Know if roblox is working on this then they need to let us know. It sounds like they arnt even considering to start looking into this. It’s sounds like instead they are working on 3.0 bodies. Everyone’s main request should be fix the exploiters and place stealers. I am getting sick and tired of this roblox needs to fix it by the end of summer or I might quite.

    • The problem with Roblox broadcasting that they are dealing with exploiters will be that the exploiters will know what they’re doing to combat them. Which means the exploiters will be able to 1-up them and continue exploiting regardless. That’s why, if roblox are working on it, we won’t know about it.

    The blog said they were both the first places to reach one million plays but there cant be to firsts? It would have to be a tie?

  10. I’m starting to get annoyed at ROBLOX. The old days were the best, uploading Meshes and Sounds… But now this is ridiclious. 3.0 bodies? Lego, much? Roblox is getting into Copyrighted ideas and updating roblox with horrid effects.

  12. I can’t wait for further updates like the In-Game Wardrobe! It’ll but quite fun with that feature.

  13. Few points to say before the conference:

    1. Let NBC users get some of the newer 2.0 bodies besides just the ROBLOX girl, but you can keep the prices already on the bodies.

    2. Add your sound device where users can upload sounds themselves.

    3. Add A cFramer to ROBLOX studio, there is a lot of simplified cFramers out there.

    • With the “changing character in game”, A.K.A. the In-game Wardrobe, I’d really like to see that, too. I can’t wait for it to come out.

  21. Well im not very good with scripts myself. That one that Justin created must have been real good.
    I could only leave suggestions about script ideas.
    I would like to attend the conference and all, but unfortunately i live in another country :p

  23. why cant you tell people how to make plugins and help with scripting because alot of people (me) dont get scripting and the plugins thing so can people you make a blog about that sometime?

    • The 3.0 Bodies will ruin ROBLOX. And most of the ROBLOX members will leave because of it. So you hope it will come out so ROBLOX gets shutdown? Burn. Buuuuurn….. BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • The bodies won’t make ROBLOXian’s quit. Just becase you hate them, doesn’t mean ROBLOX will shut down.
        They said the same about 2.0 bodies, and nothing happened. Nub.

  50. It doesn’t take a lot of building and scripting to get to front. All it takes is:
    1. BC membership.
    2. Good looking thumbnails
    3. Copied game
