CompassThe ROBLOX website is a constant work in progress, as evidenced in the last week alone by launches of a mobile site (at m.roblox.com) and a new and improved ROBLOX Catalog. Despite reaching those major milestones, we continue to work toward a cleaner, leaner, easier-to-use web experience, and today unveiled a refreshed navigation menu.

The key goals of the redesign were reducing the amount of real estate used by the navigation and implementing stylistic changes that gel better with the rest of the website. As you can see below, the three standard elements – account statistics, site navigation and account navigation – are condensed into two spaces.

The site navigation not only takes up less space, but is organized in a more logical manner — something we’re keeping top of mind as we update and improve Roblox.com. Here are some changes of note:

  • Main site navigation and account statistics (friend requests, messages, Robux/tickets) are consolidated in a single, universal menu
  • Forum, Contests, Blog and Help links are grouped in a dropdown menu labeled “More”
  • Once you’re logged in, links to account-specific features (Places, Profile, Friends, etc.) are always visible
  • Account settings and logout are now accessed using the gear in the upper-right corner

We tested this navigation scheme across all major platforms and browsers for near pixel-perfect consistency. You can let us know of any issues you discover on our Technical Issues forum.

  1. This is an OK layout, but I’d like to see everything grouped further. A Community tab would combine Groups, People, and the Forum. Games would have a dropdown menu with all the genres (ah, memories) and the Build thing on top just above a divider (play around with a horizontal rule, maybe make a line?).
    I’d also like to see smoothing of the gray menu’s edges and more centering of the buttons in said menu to make everything seem fluid.

  5. I really like this, because I can upload my Shirts/Pants faster than with the older one, It is helpful and necessary to others I would think. But Personally, I would love for us to customize our homepage. Like adding a background for example or maybe a choice for other people to go back to the old theme if possible.

  6. I love the new one, but the old one was better. But still, it’s pretty nice I guess. It was really an unneeded update. It was fine before and it’s fine now. But it was a seriously unneeded update. I mean come on, why update something for no reason?!

  9. Its cool but an uneeded update. Its taking me a while to get use to everything and the old sight had everything laid out for you. I think roblox should work on stuff like the (not responding) a lot of users get when they enter a game or making limiteds more advanced so users can get better wayss to get money.

    The key to making a good website isnt making it hard (which a lot of people get) its making it accesable. Dont make anything like minecraft too. Roblox is to good for minecraft.

  15. It’s hard to cope with the new navigation. I’m used to clicking Home in its 3.0 spot, but I click Places or Profile instead.

  18. Ok,MOST of these comments are complaints. I have a couple of ups and downs.
    Downs first:
    I cant see my tix and robux because i always use studio.I scroll as far as i can and i still cant see them.
    Ups:It makes roblox easier to navigate from page to page so now you dont have to go My Profile Places and then build your place.

  21. i think that it is epic cause roblox is elvolving into a better website and the new stuff roblox is putting on is good and i dont think it is complicated at all.

  22. To be honest, I don’t like the new UI. What happened to the user ads? And it looks a bit too modern for Roblox. Please have an option to change it back.

  27. I am sorry Roblox, but it is WAY TO SMALL. I can see where your headed with this, because it is suppose to be for kids. As a web designer my self, I know that your links at the top of the page dose not look good from a person view. To kids, it would look grate because they would think the site is cool, and it is. The thing that bring it down the most is the menu. Maybe make it larger. Over all, it looks grate, it is just that one part of the site that I dis-like.

  28. I’m looking for the knight of sky hat, but because the new catalog is so terrible, I can’t even find it, and instead shows up with 1k models and decals, and 1-2 hats. Let us change to the old, cause most of us hate the new.

  31. Can you make it so the old roblox layouts (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009) can be selectable? I really want the 2008 style back…

  32. I like the old one better. It’s bigger and less confusing. Plus the new bar doesn’t take up the space to the right side of the screen. The stuff under My Roblox, which is now Home, is in a different order. It makes it confusing to those who have played a long time and know the old navigation bar inside and out. I also hate for the new navigiation bar in order to see your wall with all of the group shouts and best friend status updates you have to click Home. I liked it when the Home thing brought you to your wall. Only good thing about new navigation bar is you can click the smaller options anywhere on the Roblox site. Before you had to click My Roblox or be on someones profile to click the smaller options. The More tab is just pointless. It’s better just to let you click the items under More without clicking More. Like having them all be a tab on the navigation bar. A combination of the two would look nice.

  37. ROBLOX if you read this commentary, please hear me out. One thing that ROBLOX needs the most in an in-game mute button. this is because if others are lsitening to a song or soemthing many ROBLOX gears make a lot of noise and I woudl really appreciate it if you could add the mute feature for ROBLOX.

  47. This is terrible…completely unnecessary.

    Why not
    1. Make a process detector that shuts down roblox is cheat engine is open(and bring back bytecode)
    2.Get rid of exploiting. No one gives a dang about your stupid eyecandy. Fix the game, for God’s sake!

  51. Alright, in my opinion, the new website layout is great. The catalog layout is awesome much more availability of filters making it easier for the user to navigate through. But, there are a few problems that should be fixed. First, the ROBUX and TIX should be once again be colored to green and yellow, it is simply how we identify each(Same for the Messages and Friend Request icons. Also, the FORUMS button should not be in the MORE category, for it is a massively used button. And lastly, you should think on a new background; the white background is very dull and boring.

      Funny my friend was on 2.0 when she started ROBLOX because we where messing with the settings, that was funny.

  58. Please, let us change it back to 1.0 and 2.0. Those themes are so much better than the new site theme.
