We Have Experienced Technical Difficulties

TechnicalDifficulties

Hello Robloxia! A small percentage of our users have been having a problem joining games today. When they go to play ROBLOX, the “wait for join” screen gets stuck and the game never starts.

We believe that we have now fixed the problem.

If you are still experiencing issues, here are two things to try:

  1. Restart your computer and try again. Seriously, I’m not just telling you to do this. We think it should fix the problem.
  2. If that doesn’t work, please post in the Technical Support Forum. ROBLOX engineers will be paying especially close attention to this forum for the remainder of the day.

Refer a friend, get paid!

Today, we’re unveiling a new referral code program. Here’s how it works:

1. Find your referral code. You can find it on the Builders Club page and on the new Share Roblox page. Here’s an example:

2. Share your code with friends. We’ve given you lots of ways to share it on the new Share Roblox page. You can email it to your friend. Email it to yourself to forward to your friends. Open up your normal email program with the message and edit it. Print out referral cards. Memorize it. Write it down. Get a tattoo on your forehead with it. You can also actually go outside and interact with people in real life and give them your code.

3. Get paid. If your friend enters your referral code when creating a new ROBLOX account, we’ll keep that in our history for as long as the account exists. You can see your total friend referral count on the Share Roblox page. If one of the friends you’ve referred goes to sign up for Builders Club at any point, we will fill out their referral code box on the payment page with your code. If they had an account already and they didn’t use your code to sign up, but you still referred them to Builders Club, they can put in your code at the time of payment and you will get credit. When they have successfully upgraded, you and your friend will both get an extra 50 ROBUX and a PM in your inbox letting you know about it. Please note that this referral code is now taking the place of the old way to get an inviter badge. If you refer 4 friends, you will still get the inviter badge, but they have to fill out your code. If they click your link from Share Roblox, however, they will have your code automatically filled in when they sign up. So it will have the same effect as the old system.

4. Win prizes. We want to do something special for our top Builders Club referrer(s) of every month. You can check out our global Referral leaderboards under Share Roblox to see where you stand. On the first day of every month, we will begin a new contest. This month’s prize is very special: a conference call (or online chat) with either Builderman or Telamon. That’s right - the top referrer in our inaugural October month will get a one-on-one conversation with our CEO or everyone’s favorite ROBLOX superstar, your choice. If you were the top referrer of the month, we’ll send you a message with details on how to join the call. There may even be a little something for other top referrers of the month - to find out, start referring friends to ROBLOX and Builders Club now.

Introducing ROBLOX live chat

Yesterday, we integrated a new feature called ROBLOX live chat into the site. With ROBLOX live chat, you can chat with your ROBLOX friends anywhere on the site!

During the next few weeks, we will be turning the chat on and off during select times so that you can help us test it – look for the pink banner telling you that we’ve turned it on.

When chat is on, you will see a blue chat bar at the bottom of every page. Builder’s Club members will be able to click the “Friends” button on the left of this bar to see a list of their online friends that they’ve recently chatted with. Click on your online friend to open a chat. A Builder’s Club member will also be able to go to their friend’s profile and click an “Open Chat” button below their avatar to begin chatting. You can start as many chats as you want.

Builder’s Club or not, can receive and reply to messages! When you receive a new message, you will see a new, orange tab on the chat bar. You can click this to show (and hide) a chat window. The “X” will close the current chat.

ROBLOX live chat is fully moderated. If someone is bothering you, click the “Report” button next to their name. If you remove them from your friends, they will no longer be able to chat with you.

You can control your visibility by turning your chat on and off. On the right side of the chat bar, you will notice an on/off button. When you click off, you will become unavailable. That means that you can browse the site without interruption and your friends won’t know you’re online – “Do not disturb.” When you click on, you will again become available and be able to receive chat messages from your friends.

ROBLOX live chat will be available to all of our 13 years old and over members.

Last thing – keep an eye on the right-side of the chat bar for super secret messages and updates from ROBLOX. We look forward to chatting with you – live.

Badges, Badges, Badges… Mushroom! Mushroom!

PlayerBadges

The ROBLOX Team presents: an incredibly exciting release! We’ve got so much stuff in here, I’ve been procrastinating on writing this blog post, running around my house and jumping up and down for the past two hours, because it is too exciting to even convey in words. I can say without hyperbole: it is impossible to overhype this latest release. So… what have we got?

Users Can Make Badges

Builders Club members can now make and award their own badges! BAM! Bet you didn’t see that one coming. In my conversations with players over the past several months, a common request was that ROBLOX come up with great new features for level builders. Here is one.

Nuts and Bolts of Badges

It costs 100 R$ to create a new badge. This is for a variety of reasons, but the main one is that it will drastically cut down the number of spam badges that users would otherwise create. Once you have bought a badge, you can award unlimited copies of it for free, as long as you remain in Builders Club. If your BC lapses, players keep the badges they won from your place, but you can no longer award those badges unless you renew.

Badges are a great way to get people to play your level, and to advertise for your level across ROBLOX. There is no limit to the number of different badges a single level can award.

How to Create a Badge

CreateBadgeLink

Making badges is easy. The hardest part is actually finding the link to the “Create Badge” page. It’s right under the “Advertise this Place” link on your place page and in the player showcase (shown above).

The first step is to upload an image for your badge. You can upload any image, but it is recommended that you use the badge template.

BadgeTemplate

If you download the badge template, you can just draw inside the white area, save your image, and upload it to ROBLOX.

All badges are round. If you draw in the black area, it won’t show in the final badge.

If you aren’t using the badge template, it is recommended that you at least upload a square image, otherwise your badge image will get stretched (all badges are 150 x 150 pixels).

Don’t worry, you will get a chance to see what your badge will actually look like on the site before you pay for it.

BadgePreview

On the next page, give your badge a good name and description. The description should tell people what they have to do to win your badge. Then click the “Buy” button at the bottom of your screen.

BadgeGiver

You’ll get some instructions on the next screen. Basically they tell you to add the “Badge Giver” model we created for your badge to your place (shown above). Anyone who touches the giver platform will get your badge. Place the giver in at the end of your obstacle course, at the top of your mountain, or in a hidden spot!

Important Notes About Badges and Givers

  • If you buy a badge for a place, it will only work in that specific place.
  • Badge givers only work in the place we created them for.
  • You can only give away your own badges.
  • Copying other player’s badge givers will not work.
  • If you delete your giver from your models, you can get a new one by clicking the “Create Giver” button on the Badge page for the badge you created (click on the badge from anywhere on the site).
  • Badge givers are not necessary to give out badges. If you crack the giver in ROBLOX Studio, you can see the script we generated to award the badges. Advanced users can modify this script to do amazing things. There will be a blog post on advanced badge scripting at a later date.

Win Some Badges Now

If you want to win some badges now, try out this demo place I made. It’s very simple. I’m sure you can do better!

New Group Features

That’s not all! RobloTim has spent the past week working on some awesome (and very much demanded – see? we listen) features for groups.

More Groups

We have increased the number of groups that users can be in, since a lot of users felt that 5 groups was not enough (and they are right). The limits are now:

  • 5 groups for free users
  • 10 groups for BC members
  • 20 groups for TBC members

Group Search

GroupSearch

Finding cool groups to join is now much easier than before, with our handy Group Search feature. To get to group search, click the “People” link and then click “Groups” on the main nav bar. Now you can find other players who like ninjas (or anything else you might like).

GroupSearchResults

Whoa that’s a lot of ninja groups. Going to be hard to decide which to join…

Group Ownership Transfer

ChangeOwner

Want to leave a group that you created? No problem! There are two ways to do it. You can pick a new person to own your group (using the Change Group Owner box in the group admin page), or you can just abandon the group (by leaving it). If you abandon a group you own, a link will pop up on the group page, allowing any member to seize ownership!

The new owner of the group must:

  • Be in the group
  • Have Builders Club

Group Status Updates

GroupShout2

Group owners and admins can now post “Status Updates” for the group, which will blast out new updates to everyone in the group. These messages will appear as feed updates on group members’ home pages. Great for calling group meetings!

My ROBLOX Redesign Continues

RobloSam has been hard at work continuing the redesign of the old My ROBLOX Profile page. The Profile page remains mostly the same (except it looks better), however we now have tabs on the red personal navigation bar for most of the tasks that normally you would have had to go to the Profile page to accomplish before. We’re all still getting used to it, but once we do, I believe navigating through one’s personal ROBLOX pages will be a lot snappier.

If the title of this blog post made no sense to you, you probably should either: 1) get off teh internets forevar or 2) educate yourself. Just a thought ;-)

Status Updates, Best Friends, and Feeds, oh my

We were feeling social these last few weeks, so we’ve brought you a whole bunch of new social features to enjoy on Roblox.com.

Status Updates

Now you can update your status on Roblox, and tell all your friends what you’re doing right now. You can update your status by clicking on My Roblox or by viewing your own profile page while logged in. All status updates will be visble to all of your friends, and will show up in the feeds of those who have you as a best friend. Tell them how you’re pwning the opposition… then shamefully admit how you got pwned 5 minutes in.

Best Friends

Choose up to 10 of your friends to be “best friends.” You can do this by going to your friends page and clicking “Add Best Friend” next to any of your friends, or go to a friend’s profile page and click the “Add Best Friend” link next to their avatar. Your best friends will show up in a list on your “My Roblox” page, and you’ll be able to see what they’re up to in your feed.

Feeds

Follow your best friends! The new Roblox Feed collects and displays status updates from your best friends, so you’re always in the loop. And status updates are just the beginning - expect to see all kinds of interesting info about your best friends coming soon.

As always, we’ll be filtering and moderating your status updates, so be nice!

Enjoy!

Your formerly Canadian Roblo-Sam
