The Black Iron Crown of Pwnage

Congratulations go out to Poker_Man29, the first player to achieve 10,000 knockouts. This was accomplished while maintaining close to a 2:1 ratio of KOs/WOs.

In recognition of this feat, we are gifting Poker_Man29 with the first Black Iron Crown of Pwnage.

The Roblox Team intends to roll out a new collection of badges for people who have attained either an insane number of KOs, or an insane number of visits. We’d also like to be able to give exclusive hats to people who earn the tough-to-get badges. This stuff is still in deep alpha, so don’t expect it to happen tomorrow.

Once we can easily grant items to badge winners, we will create a master-level combat badge that awards Black Iron Crowns of Pwnage. We will also create something similar for master-level builders. Until then, Poker_Man29 has the only one! GG.

More Character Visuals

My work on the Roblox character continues. As everyone saw in my last post, slick-looking mesh hair sitting on top of our blocky Roblox character created a rather freaky-looking monster. No one on the team thought it was ok to turn all Robloxians into hideous Frankenstein amalgams, so the scope of my project has been expanded. The status of the character changes is Deep Alpha - meaning we’re working on it every day, but we have no idea when they will be released. It probably won’t be Monday (in part because we are also working on several other unrevealed but very exciting features).

In the meantime, here is some more concept art.

Gamer3D sent me an awesome model of a sombrero. It will definitely find its way into the game soon. Ole!

We had some professional artists (including the incredibly talented Mike Rayhawk, who also did some of our badge icons) prototype a Roblox character for us a couple months ago. The character above is wearing the same hairpiece that looks so bad on the traditional blocky Robloxian. You can see that it looks much better here.

A Hairy Problem…

Here’s a sneak-peek at something we’re working on right now. It probably won’t be done in time for the next release, but people have asked for a great degree of character customization, and so that’s one of the things on our short list.

Making hair look good on blocky characters is hard, especially when you want the characters to also wear hats. There’s a lot we could do here, with enough time, 3D math, and artistic skill.

Erik looking dapper in a top hat. Incidentally, top hats are among the easiest headwear to model.
