After a very tough competition between some of the best bloxxers in Robloxia, four titans have emerged victorious! These four battled their way to the final round through hundreds of other competitors.
Each of these four gladiators will be receiving The Kleos Aphthiton, a very rare artifact that is exclusive to this event (pictured left).
If you want to know more about the Grand Melee Competition, check out our original post from August 15th.

August 23rd 2007

The gauntlet has been laid down and 16 finalists have advanced to the final round of the Grand Melee competition!
Meet the Finalists
We took the top 16 finishers from round 2, along with two admins who sneaked into the competition. Prizes will be granted to the top 4 non-admin finishers. Clockwork and I will be in the arena, making it hard on people trying to win :-)

Winners
The top 4 winners will take home the fabulous prizes advertised in the first Grand Melee post. The winners will be the four players with the best KO/WO ratio who have also scored at least 50 KOs. Only KOs and WOs from the Grand Melee Final Round map will count. The final round ends Sunday August 26th at midnight, PST.
Sportscaster Video Contest
The best video of the Finals posted to YouTube will win the cameraman a bonus of 500 R$. You do not need to be a finalist in order to win the video contest, but being a finalist will certainly help you get a better view. Once you have uploaded your video to YouTube, be sure to post about it on the forums so we know that it exists. The ROBLOX staff will pick their favorite video to win the prize at the conclusion of the competition.

Stoecker and Clockwork both finished their interships with us this past Friday. Clockwork is returning to his senior year in high school. Stoecker is going to be a senior at Stanford, where he will be wrapping up his degree in Computer Science. Both may continue to pop their heads in from time to time.
We’ll all certainly miss the interns. Builders of cool levels, moderation jockeys, movers of heavy objects… *tear*
Before leaving Clockwork and Stoecker compiled a list of intern stats. Behold:

Now that he’s gone, I was unceremoniously digging through Stoecker’s stuff. I hadn’t realized that he published the guitar tool that he was working on during his last week. Apparently, no one has noticed it yet, but it is pretty awesome. I’d say check it out!

Clockwork, of course, made lots of cool levels while he was here this summer.
Now he’s running what might be called the first serious ROBLOX fan site, and has put a lot of his maps up for download. In addition, he’s created a ROBLOX level calculator that assigns a number score to your ROBLOX account. The top reported score so far is 86. Try it and see how you stack up!
It was great having you guys around, hopefully you’ll come back next year! On the upside, I have a whole four cubicles to myself. Plans are underway to merge them into an ubercubiclecavefort.

This Sunday, we passed the 50,000 user mark. That’s a rather large number. When I started working at ROBLOX slightly more than a year ago, I joined as user number 261. Oh yes, things were different back then…
ROBLOX, August 2006:
Here’s a screenshot from the classic ROBLOX level Crossroads. At this time last year, Crossroads was our only multiplayer map. By August 2006, Crossroads had already begun to be reworked into its present form. The thieves’ den and blue tower (my first ROBLOX model) were in place. Erik’s castle and BM’s house with playground would be replaced in September with the present Crossroad features. Crossroads briefly cameoed PilotLuke’s battle tower, pictured in the top center.
Around this time last year, ROBLOX had ~1850 accounts, but very few active players. Take a look at this email Builderman sent out to the team on August 11, 2006:
Hey guys,
On server duty today - 5 people in-game, a new record!
- David
Wow. Five players. I see that many people in Miked’s Minigame World when I’m online at three in the morning.
We’ve certainly come a long way, but the ROBLOX Team has no intention of resting on its laurels. We have a host of improvements coming down the pipeline, and hundreds of ideas for making ROBLOX better in all regards. If we keep to it, we’ll be celebrating our 100,000th user before the new year.
For most nostalgia, check out ROBLOX in the Internet Archives, circa August 2006.

Round 2 has begun! There is a new layout, similar to miked’s paintball. Spectators may watch, but they may be kicked if a gladiator wants to get in. This round will end on Monday, August 20, in the afternoon. At this time, we will eliminate the contestants down to 16 people. Competition will be intense! Contestants will find themselves against people closer to their skill, rather than mindlessly bloxxing noobs.
