A lot has changed since Roblox came onto the scene twelve years ago. We’ve grown in size, reach, and popularity, but our vision has always stayed the same: to build the ultimate Imagination Platform where everyone could create their own games and play with friends. To celebrate our anniversary with the community that made it all possible, we’re releasing a limited-time item for free in the Catalog!

Tune in to our live stream today, August 27, starting at 3:00 PM PDT on Twitch and YouTube where we will announce the redemption code to claim the hat! We’ll also be tweeting the code on Twitter @Roblox for the rest of the community to see. Who said you couldn’t have your cake and eat it too?

Edit: Use promo code “!HAPPY12BIRTHDAYROBLOX!” to redeem this Birthday Cake Hat on roblox.com/promocodes

Now, let’s take a quick look back at the early days and see how our employees, players, and developers helped make Roblox what it is today…

When David “Builderman” Baszucki and Erik Cassel first launched Roblox in 2006, there were no hats, t-shirts, groups, or millions of games to play. In fact, the only playable games were Crossroads, Chaos Canyon, and Brick Battle. But by the end of that year, over 10,000 people had joined the platform.

As we grew bigger over the years, we continued to invest in exciting new features that were commonly requested by the community. By 2011, over twenty million players were enjoying things like customizable clothing, in-game events, and even a real-world Roblox convention.

By 2013, many developers in the community were pushing the limits of Roblox. They began establishing their own professional studios and challenged us to deliver new technology upgrades and platform features to keep up with their creativity. Fast forward to today, we’ve reached over 70 million monthly active users, our developer community is on track to earn over 70 million dollars, and some of the most played games on Roblox have reached billions of visits! It’s all thanks to you: the players, the creators, and the community that make Roblox such a fun, exciting, and creative place to be.

Here’s to the next 12 years of Roblox! May they be even bigger and better!
